What Is Wi-Fi Calling (and Why Should You Use It)?

Great conversations shouldn’t depend on having full bars.

Wi-Fi Calling lets your phone make and receive calls or texts over a Wi-Fi network instead of mobile signal. Similar to apps like WhatsApp or Skype but integrated directly into your phone, it’s perfect for when you’re in a low-coverage area but have a solid internet connection. On your end, it works just like a normal call, no apps, no extra fuss!

What You’ll Need

To use Bendigo Telco Wi-Fi Calling, you’ll need:

  • An active Bendigo Telco mobile service

  • A compatible 4G/5G device with the latest software updates installed

  • A working Wi-Fi connection

  • Wi-Fi Calling switched on in your settings

💡 Some phones may need a software update to access 000 calls over Wi-Fi when mobile coverage isn’t available.

How to Turn on Wi-Fi Calling

  1. Update your device – if you haven’t already, make sure the latest version of your phone’s software is installed.

  2. Enable VoLTE (4G Voice & Data) in your settings.

    1. On Android devices, this is usually found under Settings > Network & internet > Mobile network, then find and enable "VoLTE" or "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode".

    2. On iPhones, navigate to Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Voice & Data, and select “4G, VoLTE On”.

  3. Toggle on Wi-Fi Calling in your device’s call settings – usually under "Calls" or "Network and Internet"

That’s it! Your calls will now be connected through Wi-Fi whenever your mobile signal drops.

Things to Know

  • ✅ No extra fees apply, and all calls and texts are charged at your standard plan rates.

  • 📡 Wi-Fi Calling uses your internet data (based on your home internet provider’s plan and terms).

  • 🌏 Not available while overseas.

Slow Speeds or Dropped Calls?

This could be due to:

  • Network congestion or heavy traffic

  • Old hardware limits

  • Thick walls or environmental interference

Try restarting your device, closing background apps or limiting their usage in your settings, or moving closer to your Wi-Fi router.
