How Do I Switch to Bendigo Telco?
Spoiler: it’s easier than trying to untangle your charging cable.
Whether you’re switching for better value, local support, or because you just like the sound of giving back to your community (we get it 💚), here’s how to make the move to Bendigo Telco nice and simple.
How to Make the Switch
Online: Pick your preferred plan and sign up in minutes: no paperwork, no stress.

Can I Use an eSIM?
Yes: we now offer eSIMs! 🙌 The ordering process is exactly the same as a physical SIM. Once your order is processed, we’ll send your eSIM activation details and setup instructions straight to your email so you can get connected quickly (no mail, no waiting).
Can I Keep My Current Number?
Of course you can! When you switch, we’ll help you bring your number across. We just need:
Your current provider’s business name name
Your account number (if postpaid)
Or your date of birth (if prepaid)
We’ll handle the rest.
⚠️ Important: Don’t cancel your old service before the transfer is complete. Once it’s done, your previous provider will automatically close your account.
How Long Does it Take to Transfer My Number?
If you visit us in store, we might be able to do it all on the spot, but otherwise it may take anywhere from 4-24 hours after you request activation of your SIM.
How Will I Know When It’s Done?
You’ll know your new SIM has been activated when your old service stops working. Once you’ve noticed this, pop out your old SIM (or complete your eSIM setup as per the instructions). You may need to restart your phone at this point. Then, it’ll connect to the Bendigo Telco (yes, Optus) network and you’ll be good to go!
💡 Tip: If it doesn’t connect right away, wait a few minutes and try restarting your phone.
Can I Use My Existing SIM?
Unfortunately, no. SIMs are tied to your old provider. Before switching, make sure your contacts and messages are saved to your phone, not your SIM. You can usually do this inside your phone Contacts or Messenger app. Once you pop in your Bendigo Telco SIM or activate your eSIM, you’ll lose anything that hasn’t been backed up to the phone.
Does It Cost to Transfer My Number?
Not a cent from us. 🎉
However, your current provider might charge an early termination or disconnection fee, especially if you’re still in contract. Check your current provider’s Critical Information Summary (CIS) or reach out to them first so there are no surprises.
Keeping Your Number Safe 🔒
We take mobile number fraud seriously. Bendigo Telco follows the Telecommunications (Mobile Number Pre-Porting Additional Identity Verification) Industry Standard 2020, meaning we’ll verify you before completing any transfer or SIM swap — either online, over the phone, or in person.
